1-4-05 :: MP3 - April Fool?
No, it's true - we now have an MP3 available for download. Also, don't forget to come see us
on sunday supporting Cubic Space Division at The Joiners, Southampton!
17-3-05 :: Thursday = Tsarday!
Make sure you're down The Dungeon in Southampton on 24th March for James' birthday. With Good Friday the following day and his abundance
of fresh new tickets to sell for the next couple of gigs, what more reason could there be for attending? ;-)
11-2-05 :: Two-eyes and The Tsar!
Steve and James will be DJ'ing on SCAR next wednesday, starting at 9pm.
Come for the tunes, stay for the loons!
9-2-05 :: More shows
Check out the gigs page for more show details, including a support with the amazing
Byzantine! Yes, that is indeed the US band featured on
Chimpwars! Check out the debut out on Prosthetic Records.
7-2-05 :: The Derriere Sessions
We've just come out of an intensive two day recording session with none other than Cubic Space Division's crooning
axeman Jamie Floate at the helm. We also put the finishing touches on our previous (somewhat delayed) recording so
expect some kind of CD out in a month or so - a four track EP perhaps.
21-01-05 :: Wool
In case you need another reason to see us on 27th, it's Steve's birthday! So come along, make merry and bring gifts;
but please, no more chins or thumbs! Also, don't believe everything you read on flyers - the first support is Olmec Diagram,
not Rules of Conflict.
10-01-05 :: New Year / False Start
Happy New Year and all that crap. It's not starting completely as planned; our first Portsmouth gig has been cancelled for
unknown reasons and Kai has managed to perforate his eardrum, which isn't ideal. Hopefully it'll be fixed in time for our
show with Eden Maine and Aconite Thrill else we'll have to all have to play very quietly!
17-12-04 :: The Xmas-factor
We're winding down for a few weeks now, so happy xmas to one and all! While not over-eating and generally partaking of too much fun
we shall be concentrating on finally finishing the demo (we really mean it this time) and sorting some merch out for the new year.
Merry Everyone!
9-12-04 :: Dimebag - R.I.P
He will be missed.
7-12-04 :: Bournemouth Details [UPDATED]
Apparently the Bournemouth show is a Metal vs Punk thing. I think it starts in the afternoon. No idea when we're on so get there early!
UPDATE: Download a flyer
here to get a quid off.
More details on the gigs page.
6-12-04 :: More gig dates
We'll be playing Mr Smiths on the Sun 12 Dec - I can't remember any other info as I was in a right state when i was told. We also
have a date for our Jan gig. At least, I think so - see previous statement.
30-11-04 :: Newbury off
Just found out the council have cancelled the Newbury gig. Bastards. Fate is again consipiring to have us only play in Hampshire. ;-)
28-11-04 :: An achey night of thrill!
A big thanks to everyone who came out and made friday a fucking excellent night. We had a great time metalling it up for you all! If you want
some more, we'll be playing The Joiners in late-January with Aconite Thrill and Eden Maine. Of course, you needn't wait that long - come
to Newbury on Sat 4th Dec!
25-11-04 :: You've got mail!
Check out our new mailing list thing on the contact page. Sign up now and receive crap from
us directly into your inbox! Ha! If you've signed up for our list at a gig, you'll be on on our list now unless your handwriting is like
that of a drunken goat, in which case you'll need to sign up again.
22-11-04 :: Balls of Conflict
News just in; Rest at Nothing will be replaced by a new band, Rules of Conflict (not Balls of Conflict, as I first thought they were
called after chatting about them in a noisy pub), featuring The Dude, Ben, (ex-Trend Abuse / Headstand) and a bunch of people I don't
know but who I'm sure are splendid people too. By all accounts (well, by one account) they are female-fronted and fucking heavy - praise
be, another seven-stringer on the scene!
18-10-04 :: Winchester Thrill!
Looks like we'll be playing The Railway in Winchester on Fri 26th Nov with none other than Aconite Thrill. If you've
not seen them before, now's your chance! Plenty of intricate splendidness. Check out their debut full length album,
The Recliner, in shops now.
12-10-04 :: Looniversity Challenge!
Well, what can I say? A massive thanks to the hundreds of you who turned up to the Rocktoberfest event at
Southampton University! Cheers to the organisers for putting on a splendid night and including us on the bill.
We have some pictures available here
until I get a chance to sort them out and put them on our pics page. The first few pics aren't us, in case you can't tell. ;-)
4-10-04 :: Bournemouth Really Strikes Back!
Big apologies to anyone who went to see us at Mr Smiths last night. Our van decided to break down on the A31.
However, much hilarity ensued as Steve and I hiked a mile or so across spiky bushes, bogs, shit, barbed wire
and other assorted New Forest gubbins to get to the nearest garage whilst it pissed it down. Consequently, we're
both ill and I'm now a member of the RAC. Arse.
24-9-04 :: Bournemouth Strikes Back!
Looks like we'll be playing Mr Smiths soon (Oct 3rd). We must remember to fill the van up with petrol this time...
20-9-04 :: More metal than your mum!
A massive thanks to all you guys that supported us at Manifest VI, especially after we inadvertantly
headlined two hours after we were initially going to play! I'm glad so many of you decided support the
live metal instead of sloping off for generic tunes down the usual places. I hope we see you all down
The Joiners on Fri 1st Oct for another Cubic Space Division / Rather* metal explosion!
17-9-04 :: Student Hurt Process!
We've just been confirmed to play Southampton RockSoc's ROCK event on Oct 11. The Hurt Process
will be headlining; you can read all about them in the October issue of Metal Hammer.
27-8-04 :: I spy-o with my little bio!
Si's been busy with his pencils and the dictionary. Check out the new bio!
20-8-04 :: Bournemouth!
We've got our first out of town gig! Check us out in everbody's favourite seaside town on Sep 6th.
12-8-04 :: Manifest VI!
The complete line-up for Manifest VI at the Railway Inn, Winchester has now been announced.
Check out the gigs page for details.
6-8-04 :: Photo schmoto - pt II!
Check out the spanky new pics!
26-7-04 :: Photo schmoto!
We've just got back from our gladrag photoshoot around the glorious sights, or sites in some cases, of Southampton.
Keep an eye out for those - they should be appearing here very soon. Also, we're now on the bill for the next Manifest metal
all dayer in September.
15-7-04 :: Gig cancelled!
Unfortunately, the Skindred gig has been cancelled. On the bright side, we now have one of our songs almost complete,
so check back soon for free downloads.
6-7-04 :: Stuff'n'stuff!
Big thanks to those of you out last friday. It appears excessive 'Glastonbury fun' didn't take too much of a toll.
In other news, the demo is almost there - just need to sort the vocals and a few incidental bits and it's done.
Also, check the gigs page - the Skindred night has changed venue and date.
21-6-04 :: Skindred!
Another gig forthcoming with none other than Skindred! Not only that, but we'll be also playing with PDHM (as seen in this months Metal
Hammer and at Manifest V, last march) and a Bournemouth band, Hollow.Point. Check the gigs page for details. The CD is
progressing slowly, but surely. We now have one song complete bar vocals and another requiring both vocals and guitar. It's sounding pretty good so far.
21-5-04 :: Brutal worm!
We've just confirmed another gig on Fri 2nd July at the Joiners. We will be supporting none other than Brutal Deluxe and Gutworm! This
promises to be the most metal night out you'll have this year. Not content with a liberal dosage of live metal? Come along anyway as it is
on the Ignition metal night (every first friday of the month) with DJ's spinning discs until 1am.
20-4-04 :: EP in the works!
I'm pleased to announce that the forthcoming EP is, well, considerably more forthcoming than it was as
we now have some time in May booked to start recording. The plan is to get it ready for the summer. Songs slated for
this include The Naked Ventriloquist and Catharsis for the Delusional Elitist and
possibly more depending on how quickly we can lay tracks down. For those of you not yet aware of which songs in our set are which,
I mean the one with the crazy squelchy bass noise in the intro and the technical one with incredibly fat chunky bits and the crazy
breakdown near the end. Er. Nevermind. ;-)
10-4-04 :: Good metal!
Short of crucifying Kai and suspending him over the stage, we couldn't have had more fun last night. All the bands fucking rocked
and everyone was out in force with lots of people sticking around to enjoy bands other than the one they came to see.
Thanks again for overwhelming response to our new and most unashamedly metal song and thanks for not noticing (or at least pointing out)
my usage of the words 'buh buh buh buh' when i forgot the lyrics. ;-)
31-3-04 :: Speak!
In the words of Queensryche, 'Speak the word... the word is all of us'. We now have a message board with features far
in excess of our needs! Check it out (use the link on the left).
25-3-04 :: Breed77 + caption mayhem!
News just in - we're playing Joiners, Southampton with none other than Breed77, 209 and Solitude! That's gonna rock more than my pet pebble!
In a more random vein, check out new caption competition for a chance win free stuff!
22-3-04 :: Chompton to the max!
A big thanks to everyone who turned up and, more importantly, stayed throughout our first gig at The Joiners last sat! We had a lot of fun.
Congrats to everyone present for making it a wicked day! We now have some pics of us too (thanks, Greg).
10-3-04 :: The tortoise has definately landed!
They just keep on coming. Check the gigs page - we have another at the Joiners on April 9th.
3-3-04 :: Pure rock fury, no less!
It appears we've landed another southampton gig. Be at the Old Fat Cat on Friday 26th March for your weekly metal supplement.
It appears to be two days after The Guitar Tsar's birthday so who knows what state he'll be in, the random motherfucker.
1-2-04 :: Shine, shine, you crazy metal star!
After months of experimentation and biding our time we can finally announce that our line-up is complete.
Singing for us is none other than Kipper Alpha, the Kai Lord. You may remember him from such bands as
Dilutral and ..er .. well, that's enough, isn't it?
Also, we shall be playing MANIFEST IV at the Joiners, Southampton on 20 March 2004. We thought we'd slip
in a sneaky opening slot as a warm up to our 2004 onslaught, so be there early (2pm) and partake of the Rather
experience!
11-9-03 :: The calm before the storm
Our audition 'schedule' got completely ballsed up by guitar amps/festivals/holidays/etc. However we're all back now and just
brimming with molten metal. Hmm. The mp3's on this site are now beginning to sound almost dated compared to the songs we've been
writing now. Think heavier and more technical and you'd be getting closer.
4-8-03 :: More MetalStars!
Thanks to the last bunch of people to audition; there were some nice ideas in there. Still a few more guys to try out...
29-7-03 :: MetalStars!
Auditions are now under way! On sunday, we checked out some of the singers who've asked to try out; a big thanks to them for making
the effort! It was good fun. Only another six or seven left to go. Hopefully, we'll be able to make a decision in a few weeks.
16-7-03 :: Did someone say, 'MP3'?
We've got the demo's up on the mp3 page now. If you want to front our band, check them out and see what
you think of it. If you're still up for it, let us know and we'll sort out an audition.
5-7-03 :: MP3s on their way!
Thanks to everyone who's showed an interest in being our vocalist. We should have some demos up by next week
if our cunning recording plan works out tomorrow. Watch this space.
28-6-03 :: The tortoise has landed!
Welcome to the rather* website; it’s brand spanking new! In
fact, we’re brand spanking new too. So new we don’t even have a singer.
Are you up for it? Can you bellow like a beast? Can you warble
like a skylark? Do you want to be part of Southampton’s freshest metal
band? Let us know.
Hopefully we’ll have some mp3s up soon so you’ll get what we’re
about. Think heavy, think groove, think different. It’s all rather*.
